Pride, visibility, and belonging

Celebrating Disability Pride is a festive gathering for the whole community. It increases visibility, dignity, and inclusion for people with disabilities while raising awareness and reducing stigma.

Conceived by Cambridge residents with lived experience, known as the Inclusive Health Coalition, the event models an inclusive and accessible public gathering. Bring your friends and family for a day of creative, recreational, and entertaining activities.

Joan Lorentz Park sits beside the Cambridge Public Library at 449 Broadway. Zones are laid out as follows:

  • Tennis courts: basketball clinic, power lifting, Adaptive Zumba, Holiday Play
  • Big tree lawn: library story time, yoga, guided meditation
  • Broadway side: Accessibility Hub and resource tables
  • Library plaza: food, ice cream, photo booth
  • Quiet corner behind the library: sensory-friendly tactile area
  • Accessible restrooms: inside the Cambridge Public Library
  • Shuttle stop and EMS station: Broadway entrance

  • Complimentary Disability Pride Event Shuttle

    Complimentary, wheelchair-accessible shuttle service will be provided to and from the event with convenient stops at all library branches throughout the city from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm.

  • Transit, driving, and parking

    Underground parking is available during library hours, entering from Broadway. Cost is 25 cents per 12 minutes, Monday through Saturday, and free on Sunday. Pay with quarters, Visa, or Mastercard.

  • On-site support

    Accessible public restrooms are available inside the library, and EMS will be on site. Live interpretation is provided in ASL, Bangla, and Spanish.

  • What to expect

    The event is outdoors on grass and paved paths. There is amplified music near the tennis courts and quieter space behind the library. Crowds are heaviest between 12:00 and 1:00 PM. Photography will take place throughout the day. Let staff at the Accessibility Hub know if you prefer not to be photographed.

Accessible transportation

Complimentary Disability Pride Event Shuttle

Complimentary, wheelchair-accessible shuttle service will be provided to and from the event with convenient stops at all library branches throughout the city from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm.

What is a disability?

A disability is any condition of the body or mind that makes it harder for a person to do certain activities and interact with the world around them.

The same type of disability can affect two people in very different ways. Some disabilities are hidden or not easy to see. Some are present at or before birth, and others happen later in life.

Disabilities may affect vision, movement, thinking, remembering, learning, communicating, hearing, mental health, or social relationships.

Accessibility statement

This site is built to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, the technical standard adopted by the U.S. Department of Justice for state and local government web content under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

That means every image carries a text description, every control can be reached and operated with a keyboard, text and background colors meet minimum contrast ratios, content reflows without loss at 200 percent zoom, and motion is reduced for anyone whose device requests it.
